Welcome to Holly Hill Designs
Hello, I am Susan Quicksall. I would like to welcome you to Holly Hill Designs. Please come in and let me share with you my passion for rug hooking. I hope you enjoy your visit!
Thank you so much for stopping by.
For as long as Susan Quicksall can remember, she has had her hands in threads, fabrics, and needles. The beginning of Holly Hill Designs, named after her daughters, Holly and Hillary, was established in 1980 with the production of hand-painted needlepoint canvases. Needlepoint remained her focus for many years along with embroidery, knitting, quilting, and sewing, but none have held the depth of inspiration for her since discovering rug hooking. The memory of her grandmother’s hooked rugs from the late 40’s and 50’s finally drove her to search for instruction and supplies as she found her way to books and literature that launched her self taught journey in this new art form. From there, her needlepoint business became overshadowed with woolen fabrics, linen, hooks and pattern designs.
Today, the passion of rug hooking dominates the focus of Holly Hill Designs. Her design work has been described as “refined primitive folk style” exemplifying her love of historic samplers and motifs. Her finished pieces are known for including every color of the rainbow, yet retain a subdued palette consistent with an elegant country feel.
